The exact location of where the attack is unknown except for a beach at Surf City.
This would be the 8th time a shark attack has occurred on the North Carolina coast this summer. There are several different reasons being cited for the dramatic increase of shark attacks that have taken place on the North Carolina coast this summer alone. Some of the reasons being given include: the presence of turtles; fisherman fishing for shark and chumming to attract the sharks; warm ocean water temperatures; swimming too close to piers or people surf fishing, and an increase in the number of sharks.
Whatever the reason if you plan to go swimming in the ocean while at a North Carolina beach this summer here are a few recommendations to consider. Do not wear shiny object such as jewelry in the water, avoid swimming at night, dawn or dusk, swim in a group, do not sim if bleeding, don’t go in too deep but remain in knee-deep water only, stay away from dead fish or sewage, pay attention to what is around you, do not make erratic movements and do not splash the water a lot.
