Ferry Runs Around In Hatteras Inlet
Outer Banks ferry runs aground and Coast Guard responses to rescue passengers. Thirty people on board the ferry named Roanoke were removed from the ferry after it ran aground while crossing the Hatteras Inlet Monday morning. The ferry ran a soft aground Monday just before noon. The Coast Guard responded and got everyone off the ferry. No one was injured. There were 16 vehicles on the ferry. The NC ferry was traveling from Ocracoke to Hatteras. Twenty three people were removed and taken to the Hatteras Ferry Terminal.
The plan was for a tugboat to remove the ferry and tow it back to port for inspection and for the removal of the vehicles that were on board. Before the arrival of the tugboat ferry crew members were able to get the grounded Roanoke free.
