Passenger Ferry Trail Runs This Spring For Hatteras To Ocracoke Island Crossing
This spring the North Carolina Ferry System will start trail runs for a passenger ferry between Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands at the North Carolina Outer Banks. The passenger ferry will be approximately 90 feet by 40 feet and would carry up to 149 passengers. It would have a crew of just three (the captain and only two deck hands). The passenger ferry could travel up to 28 knots per hour. Crossing the Pamlico Sound from Hatteras Village to Ocracoke village would take about one and a half hours. The passenger ferry would drop passengers off in Ocracoke Village, not at the north end of the island like the ferry does now. Sounds likes a fun new option to tour the Islands of the North Carolina Outer Banks!
