Every year coastal expert Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman (nicknamed Dr. Beach) puts out his Top 10 Best Beaches.He is the Director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research. He’s been doing the list for 23 years. He uses criteria like water and sand quality, and safety and environmental management to come up with his annual list. Cape Hatteras is #8 on his list this year for 2013.
