The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse foundation stones engraved with the lightkeeper’s names that sit in a circle at the old lighthouse site will be moved closer to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse’s current location. The stones have been subjected to sand and overwash in the recent years due to hurricanes and storms. They now sit mostly covered by sand. When moved the stones will be placed in a semicircle according to the Hatteras Island Genealogical and Preservation Society spokeswoman. The plan is to move them before Memorial Day.
