Coast Guard Suspends Search For Missing Girl From Canoe
Coast Guard suspends search for missing girl from an overturned canoe in Ocracoke Inlet. Two young men were found alive after their canoe capsized near Portsmouth Island. One man was found about 3 miles from the inlet. The other man was found about 25 miles south of the inlet. The third person, Savannah Jane Grant of West Virginia, is still missing. The dog that they had with them is also still missing.
Savannah, a 27-year-old woman was wearing a flotation device and was with the dog. The dog also had a flotation device. The dog named Poseidon was still with her when she was last seen by one of the survivors.
The NC Coast Guard command center received a report via 911 at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 of a capsized canoe with two people aboard. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City was launched to search for the people in the water. Also a shallow water special purpose craft boat and crew from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet responded.
A second male survivor was found ashore on Great Island by a good Samaritan. Great Island is about 25 miles south of the inlet. The second man stated he swam to shore and that he had last seen “the missing person in the early morning hours of Sunday.”
Friends Urge Local Fishermen and Boaters To Continue Looking
After the Coast Guard search was suspended Savannah Jane Grant’s friends posted on Facebook the following message.
ATTENTION!!!!COASTAL NC RESIDENTSMISSING PERSON!!PLEASE SHARE!!!!Savannah Grant’s canoe capsized near Ocracoke Island Saturday afternoon. Two others that were with her were found by fishermen near Portsmouth Island in Ocracoke Inlet and are being treated for hypothermia but are ok. Savannah has yet to be found. She was last seen with the dog/wolf pictured below named Poseidon.Please!!!If you know anyone in that area of NC share this with them! If she is alive she needs to be found soon! She was wearing a life jacket and very well may have this dog by her side.PLEASE SHARE!The coast guard ended their search tonight at dark. She needs our help!Send to all your coastal Carolina friends so people are on the lookout for her and Poseidon! They drifted South a good distance.Did a fisherman somewhere mention seeing a wolf on an island?

I just want everyone to know the area that needs to be searched. This is the distance between the two that were rescued. It’s a very vast area needed searched. Savannah could literally be anywhere in between or even further down. If anyone is looking around there locally, please know that there is a possibility of any and all of this area.
