Hatteras Storytelling Festival
The Hatteras Storytelling Festival is May 1-2, 2015. The festival will be held at the Hatteras Civic Center in Hatteras, NC. It begins on Friday night May 1 at 5:00pm with registration and a welcome reception. Storytellers, artist and performers at this year’s Hatteras Storytelling Festival are Danny Couch, Elvin Hooper, Clifford Swain, Ben Cherry, Nu-Blu, Rodney Kemp, James Charlet and poetry and stories by Hatteras Island Women. After the reception the storytelling begins and last till 10:00pm. The festival continues all day Saturday from 10:00am through 10:30pm.
As a lifelong resident of Hatteras Island Dan Couch will be telling stories of life on Hatteras in the early years. Hatteras Island long time resident Elvin Hooper, a local author will be telling stories of how life was like going up on in Hatteras in much simpler times. Clifford Swain lives in Hatteras and will be playing guitar and blues harp. Ben Cherry entertains all as the famous Blackbeard. Ben lives in coastal North Carolina and has a history in acting.Playing Blackbeard, dressed in costume he can entertain you with stories of Blackbeard’s life on the Outer Banks. Nu-Blu is a band that will be performing Americana-bluegrass music. Rodney Kemp is the 2003 North Carolina Historian of the Year with his North Carolina history-based tales of myths and truths.James Charlet, Historic Site Manager for the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum telling true history stories of North Carolina history as well as and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the Wright Brothers National Memorial and Roanoke Island Festival Park.Poetry and stories by Hatteras Island Women will round out the festival.
