Man and Woman Killed While Walking Along Highway 12 at Outer Banks

A man and woman vacationing at the Outer Banks were killed while walking on the side of Highway 12 in Currituck County at the Outer Banks near Corolla. Wesley and Elizabeth Martin from Pennsylvania were killed after being hit by a man driving a SUV on Highway 12. The driver apparently fell asleep and his SUV ran off the right side of the road and struck the walking couple. The driver, 50 year old Troy Bowman from Virginia, has been charged with careless and reckless driving along with 2 counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The Martin’s  four children, age 11 to 18 years old, were on the beach with other family members when the accident happened about 11:30 AM Monday July 22.
