Keeping Oregon Inlet open to boat traffic has been an ongoing problem for years. Frequent storms and the normal shifting of the sands at the Outer Banks causes the Oregon Inlet to fill with sand which makes navigating a boat though the inlet treacherous if not impossible. Repeated dredging is needed to keep the inlet open to the many commercial as well as charter and private boats that need the inlet to get from the sound to the ocean. Now the Dredge ALASKA will be dredging in Oregon Inlet from October until 31 December, 2013.
