Navy and Coast Guard Respond to Distress Calls Off Coast

The Navy and the US Coast Guard (out of Elizabeth City) responded to multiple distress calls Thursday and Friday off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina. A distress call came from a 41-foot sailboat the “Ahimsa”. Four people were removed from the sailboat that was taking on water. Other calls of distress from sailboats were received due to poor weather conditions. Conditions of high winds between 30 and 35 knots were reported causing the multiple distress calls.
