A Very Windy Day

A Windy Day on Hatteras!

On Tuesday we woke up to clouds that quickly turned to blue skies but it was a windy day. Typical Hatteras this time of year. The winds were 17mph sustained with gusts of 26mph! Not a good beach day so we slept late and cooked breakfast at the cottage. A few kiteboarders and windsurfers were out. Got a few pictures of them. Spent some time in the sun reading. Now the rain is headed our way. Still very windy and clouds approaching from the west over the sound. Heavy rain and high winds soon. Went for a bike ride to get a picture of the agave plant (in Brigands Bay) that shot up about 20 ft. Now I think it dies. See picture below. What I shame, it was so pretty. Wonder if the owner will plant another one? Plan on going to Hatteras Village for the Cancer Fund dinner. Hope we don’t get caught in a bad storm!

We did get to the Cancer Fund dinner for supper. Best food I have had on the island so far! Turkey, grilled chicken, BBQ, slaw, baked beans, pasta salad, green bean cass., collards, potato salad and a huge assortment of dessert, I ate the key lime pie and it was fantastic! The dinner was moved to the Hatteras Civic Center due to possible rain. It’s 9:19pm and it still hasn’t rained yet. Radar shows lots of rain but it when it gets close to Hatteras it breaks apart. Still windy. Bought some fudge and wanted some cajun crab dip from Risky Business but they are out until Friday. I’ll be back! A bike ride around the neighbor and a dog walk. No a quiet night at the cottage. Plan on breakfast at Leanne’s in the morning (Sonny’s in Hatteras). Love them omelets and french toast! May try to get to the beach at Ramp 49 if the wind has died down. We have lost two wind socks hanging up (to tell us the wind direction) due to the high winds. Should have known better! I love my Hatteras vacation
