Cape Point is now open to ORV traffic. Access to Cape Point was shut down on April 9 by the National Park Service. The 4 ½-month closure was the longest shutdown the seashore has seen under the new restrictions by the 2008 consent decree. Shorebird nesting season has ended for this year, but the seashore has a record 243 sea turtles nests. Many of the sea turtle nests are getting ready to hatch and access has been closed from the nest to the water. The sea turtle nests will continue hatching well into the fall.
