Outer Banks Drowning On Hatteras Island Near Frisco

Outer Banks drowning on Hatteras Island. A search took place yesterday for a missing swimmer on Hatteras Island. The missing swimmer was last seen in the water at a Frisco beach near Ramp 49. Just after 1:00pm Tuesday a young man was reported missing on the beach near Ramp 49 in the Frisco area of Hatteras Island. The missing swimmer was apparently trying to help another swimmer. The swimmer in trouble made it safely to shore but not the other young man. Multiple agencies responded to the 911 call. Taking part in the search included The Hatteras Island Rescue Squad, Dare MedFlight, U.S. Coast Guard, National Park Service rangers and Dare County Sheriff’s officers.

The missing 18-year-old has been reported to bean exchange student from Thailand. After the first responders were unable to locate the missing swimmer more help was brought in on the search. The US Coast Guard sent two boats to the site as well as a Jayhawk helicopter.

The body of the missing 18-year-old young man was recovered several hours later from the beach just south of where he was last seen in the water on Tuesday.
