Here is the latest Bonner Bridge replacement update from the NCDOT and Dare County at the Outer Banks. The replacement of the Bonner Bridge and the Pea Island Bridge on the North Carolina Outer Banks continues on this summer. If you are planning a vacation to the Outer Banks this summer here is the latest update from the NCDOT about the projects. There will be some daytime lane closures so expect delays when traveling in the areas affected by the construction. There may be some night-time closures that can possibly last for about 30 minutes. This would only be done when equipment and supplies are needed at the site. Extended closures will ony be done during the night when traffic is less. These extended closures will be made known by the NCDOT in advance and made public in advance.

Both the Bonner Bridge replacement project and the Pea Island bridge replacement on Hatteras Island are ongoing. There has been a lot of progress on the construction of these two bridges. The NCDOT warns travelers to the Outer Banks to stay alert and pay attention while driving, obey all posted speed limits and watch for signs about changing lanes, decreasing speed, no passing and other warnings posted in the construction areas. Warning and signs could change form day-to-day or week to week. Please pay attention and stay safe.

There is also a beach nourishment project taking place on Hatteras Island in the Buxton area. And in Kitty Hawk there is road work being done on the beach road. These areas may also affect traffic on Highway 12. Plan for delays and take your time. Its vacation time, relax!
