The people of Ocracoke are asking why all the State Trooper coverage on such a small island with only 16 miles of highway? State Patrol officials confirm that 6 state troopers were on the Island the day after July 4 to perform license checks. The checkpoint resulted in 3 DWI and 1 marijuana possession charges, along with 33 citations for seat belt violations, lack of child restraints and for having no operator’s license. Ocracokers question the show of force of state trooper presence on such a small island. The first weekend in May state troopers again were on the small island and handed out 59 citations for various minor violations. Seriously?
